This retreat began as a dream, and watching it grow over the years—held by such an incredible community of doulas—fills my heart with deep gratitude.
My vision for this weekend is for doulas to replenish themselves, immerse in their passion, and connect in the sisterhood of wise women carrying this ancient work forward.
How you experience this retreat is entirely up to you. The lush grounds are woven with forest trails, old-growth trees, and quiet spaces for reflection.
This weekend is yours—to rest, to learn, to share, and to fill your cup in whatever way serves you best.
Facilitated offerings and meals are included, yet always optional.
Enjoy a bright, private cottage featuring a queen bed and private bathroom. Unwind while taking in views of the meadow below and the Oma Tree, an ancient maple. This is the only private room with its own private bath.
One spot available.
As you enter this cottage, featuring a queen-size bed and a comfortable couch, take in the view from the picture window overlooking the creek, surrounded by lush ferns and trees. Pause for a moment to listen to the gentle burble of the water, or watch the horses grazing in the meadow from the doorway. The bathroom for this cottage is located in the lodge.
One spot available.
Walk up the small, winding staircase to the upstairs rooms in the main lodge and choose one of our charming, private bedrooms. There are two bedrooms upstairs—one overlooking the garden and the other facing the trees and the road to the barn. Each room has a single bed, and the bathroom is located downstairs.
Two spots available.
Spacious and bright, this cottage features full-size windows that create a luxurious, open feel. Look out over the meadow and you may spot deer wandering through, horses grazing, or geese stopping by. Cedar Cottage offers one king-size bed and two single beds, along with an ensuite bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink.
Three spots available.
As you enter Maple Cottage, take in the sense of space and rustic charm, highlighted by wooden beams and a vintage clawfoot tub. Look outside to greet Oma, the maple tree standing beside the cottage with her branches outstretched toward the sky. Maple Cottage features one queen-size bed, two sets of bunk beds, and a bathroom with a bathtub/shower, toilet, and two sinks.
Five spots available.
Immersed in the lush, green landscape of the Xenia organic gardens, this cozy cottage is tucked behind wooden gates, twinkling evening lights, and winding garden paths. With the sky fully open above, enjoy both sunlit days and moonlit nights. Garden Cottage features one loft bed running the length of the cottage and two single beds. The bathroom is a short, delightful walk through the garden to the lodge.
Two spots available.
As you leave the garden gate and follow the gently sloping hill, you find the Crystal Yurt waiting for you. Step inside and take in a sense of peaceful energy. The Crystal Yurt features one queen-size bed and one single bed. The bathroom is located in a nearby building just a few steps away, and for nighttime visits, the beauty of the night sky accompanies you.
Two spots available.
The Luna Yurt, where you feel as close to the outdoors as you do inside. Listen closely and you may hear deer moving through the area or owls calling in the night. The Luna Yurt features one double bunk bed (double on the bottom, single on top) and one single bed. The bathroom is located in a nearby building just a few steps away, with the night sky there to accompany you during evening visits.
Three spots available.

As a postpartum doula educator, I had a vision for Wise Woman postpartum graduates and postpartum doulas in general to connect. As fate often does, the retreat created a community of it's own filled with experienced doulas who practice both postpartum and birth. There is so much overlap and shared knowledge in the two areas. I have removed "postpartum" from the description to allow for all doulas to know they are welcome.
Magical Bowen Island is located a short ferry ride from West Vancouver, BC, Canada. The ferry from Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal runs about every hour and a half during the day and takes about 20 minutes to reach Bowen Island. You can not reserve this ferry, it is a first come first serve basis and takes vehicles and walk on passengers. You can view the schedule here https://www.bcferries.com/current-conditions/HSB-BOW
Xenia retreat center is a 38-acre Sanctuary in the heart of Bowen Island. It is also surrounded by hundreds of acres of protected government forests and lakes. It is a place of safety and beauty. It is a place to heal, to rest, to play and to discover one’s true nature and inherent gifts.
Babes in arms are welcome to attend with you. Please let me know if you plan to bring your infant and I will make sure the accommodations will suit you both. Older children are loved and adored but the retreat is not appropriate for them. I am happy to help families who have older children find close accommodations where partners can tend to them and mothers can be called upon if needed. Please reach out if you would like help with this.
BC Ferries operate daily from 6:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. If you are called to attend a birth outside of these hours, we have arranged for a water taxi to be on call to transport you quickly to Horseshoe Bay. We cover the on-call fee for the water taxi over the weekend; you would be responsible for the cost of the actual crossing.
There is an opportunity to tell us about your dietary restrictions when you fill out your registration form. We can meet most needs including vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian. In cases of strict cross contamination issues you are welcome to bring your own food and a separate fridge will be supplied for you, as well as the opportunity to prepare it in a clean kitchen on your own time.
We will happily pick you up and drop you off from the ferry terminal!
